The third and final seminar in this phase of the “AI in Architecture” series, titled “AI in Architecture, Part III: Design”, brought faculty members together for a lively and collaborative discussion. Rather than offering a one-directional presentation, I designed this session as an open forum to collectively explore how AI is transforming architectural design thinking and practice.

In particular, we focused on the growing presence of generative AI tools and their potential to support sustainability goals, inspire formal exploration, and accelerate decision-making. At the same time, I emphasized the importance of critically examining the tension between automation and human creativity. How do we, as designers and educators, remain intentional in our processes while navigating algorithmic suggestions? What does authorship mean when tools can “generate” dozens of design options in seconds?

One of the most rewarding aspects of this seminar—and of the entire series—was witnessing the active engagement of my colleagues. Their thought-provoking questions and openness to challenge conventional norms underscored a shared commitment to reimagining architectural education in response to emerging technologies.
Looking ahead, I am excited to continue this seminar series in collaboration with our students. Their voices and experiences will be essential as we co-develop more critical, inclusive, and creative approaches to AI in design education.
